Nevada To Consider Approving “Slap Fighting”

Further update October 19, 2022– I reached out to the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports for comment on this regulatory development. Their only reply is “No comment, we will wait and see.“.

Update October 18, 2022 – Nevada has now approved slap fighting. As expected. A ‘sport’ which takes out all defence from combat sports and has competitors intentionally receive brain trauma. A competitor has already died in the short time of this specticle.

If you are not familiar with ‘slap fighting’ here is an example

I try to be diplomatic in most of my articles but slap fighting is something I describe as the gutter of all combat sports.

If you’re not familiar with it it involves two people, willingingly taking a full hit to the head with an open hand, until one of them yields. Often via unconsciousness due to a traumatic brain injury. A ‘sport’ that removes all the skill but keeps all of the brain trauma of combat sports.

Nevada is holding a public hearing this week to discuss whether they can oversee such a sport.

As reported by MMAJunkie, An LLC managed by UFC president Dana White and former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta is looking to bring “Slap Fighting” to Nevada.

In a public agenda the Nevada Athletic Commision notes this news business item to be discussed on October 18, 2022.

Discussion and possible action, on the presentation by Schiaffo, LLC regarding “Slap Fighting”
contests or exhibitions for a determination of whether such contests or exhibitions qualify as
unarmed combat as defined in NRS 467.0107 and thus fall under the jurisdiction of the Nevada
Athletic Commission pursuant to NRS 467.070, for possible action

I will save you the dog and pony show. The commission has jurisdiction over all “unarmed combat” in Nevada. Unarmed combat covers “any form of competition in which a blow is usually struck which may reasonably be expected to inflict injury.” An intentional slap causing traumatic brain injury meets this definition.

The Commission should not discuss if they can legalize this sport. They should discuss should they legalize it.
