_______________________________________________________________
Hello Everyone,
I’m pleased to share an important update for Ontario’s combative sports community.
Effective October 1, 2026, the Ontario Athletic Commission (OAC) will officially begin sanctioning professional Muay Thai events across Ontario and will be responsible for the licensing of professional Muay Thai promoters, athletes, seconds, officials, matchmakers, and managers.
This milestone represents an important step in the continued growth and regulation of professional combat sports in Ontario. Bringing professional Muay Thai under the OAC’s regulatory framework has been an initiative in development for quite some time, and we are very proud to see it come to fruition. This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of many stakeholders and our shared commitment to supporting the safe, fair, and sustainable growth of the sport in Ontario.
The OAC looks forward to working collaboratively with our stakeholders to support professional Muay Thai events across the province. To that end, please refer to the links below for information related to permitting, licensing, and the applicable ruleset:
- All event permit and participant licensing information can be found on our website: Professional combative sport events | ontario.ca
- The professional Muay Thai rules that will govern OAC-sanctioned events can be found here: Professional combative sport rules: Muay Thai – Thai boxing | ontario.ca
We appreciate the ongoing support and engagement of the Muay Thai community and look forward to working together to continue advancing the sport in Ontario. We also welcome anyone interested in organizing professional Muay Thai events in Ontario to reach out to the OAC. Our team would be pleased to discuss regulatory requirements, permitting processes, and how we can support the successful delivery of professional Muay Thai events.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact the OAC at AthleticsComm@ontario.ca
