How do you score an MMA bout? The Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports rules subcommittee has created a visual aid called the MMA “scoring ladder” to help make it easier to understand.
This is not a change to the unified rules. It does not add or alter any of the current criteria. It is simply a supplemental tool unanimously agreed to by the MMA rules subcommittee and distributed for informational purposes to all Commissions this week at the ABC’s annual conference in Niagara Falls New York.
Despite the informal nature of this document it is a relevant aid, based on the actual unified rules and helps both newcomers to the game and veterans of the sport have a better quick understanding of the rules at play and how they are applied.
Below is a copy of the Scoring Ladder which is a great place to start for anyone hoping to get their first introduction to MMA scoring.
