After video surfaced of UFC fighter Fabricio Werdum throwing a boomerang at Colby Covington and a noted second altercation where Werdum reportedly punched Covington the UFC heavyweight has been charged with assault.
The Australian Associated Press reports as follows:
A 40-year-old man has been charged with assault after he allegedly attacked a 29-year-old man with a boomerang during a fight in Sydney’s CBD.
Police say an altercation broke out between the pair on Thursday afternoon outside a pub on George Street with the older man hitting the younger man in the neck with the boomerang which was inside a bag.
The man was charged with common assault and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on December 13.
The ages of the men identified in the above press release align with the ages of Werdum and Covington.
The New South Wales Crimes Act notes people convicted of common assault can potentially face a penalty of “imprisonment for two years“.
