UFC Fighters Given Until January 24, 2024 to Opt Out of Antitrust Class Action

Earlier this year a class action was certified against the UFC for alleged antitrust violations. The certification expanded the lawsuit from a handful of fighters to about 1,200. The case is set for jury trial in Las Vegas on April 8, 2024.

The “class” of fighters caught by certification are as follows:

All persons who competed in one or more live professional UFC-promoted MMA bouts taking place or broadcast in the United States from December 16, 2010 to June 30, 2017. The Bout Class excludes all persons who are not residents or citizens of the United States unless the UFC paid such persons for competing in a bout fought in the United States.

The lawsuit now works on an opt-out basis. Meaning all fighters meeting the above definition are automatically part of the case. A class notice plan was recently approved by the court which explains how these fighters are to be notified, what they will be told and how they can choose to opt out of the lawsuit.

A specific website was launched for this purpose at https://ufcfighterclassaction.com/ with more information. In short fighters that do nothing stay in the lawsuit. Those that wish to opt out have until January 24 to do do. I imagine very few will opt out.

Fighters are being tracked down in a variety of ways including email with the following key information being sent to them:
