The deceptively named Ali “Revival” Act is actually the Ali Destruction Act. It is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
If passed it harms protections the Ali Act gives professional boxers. Colorado’s Brittany Petterson, the US representative from Colorado’s 7th congressional district recently confirmed this “undermining” aspect of it in response to concerns raised by a boxer in her district.
In reply to Gabriel Burris, a concerned 17 year old athlete constituent, Representative Petterson confirmed as follows:
The Ali Destruction Act would
- allow promoters to both promote and manage fighters
- control rankings and championship titles
- limit financial transparency in athlete contracts
- undermine the original protections intended to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure fairness for athletes
Daming and blunt observations. These are all protections that were hard earned by boxers. All potentially to be undermined by the so called ‘revival’ Act.
